As a mother of a student-athlete, and a life -long educator, my number one priority has always been to “Learn and Teach”, “Teach and Learn.” I personally know how daunting it is for many student-athletes and their family to navigate the College Planning Process. To my surprise, on January 6, 2006, I found myself as a mother, struggling to find the words to say, that somewhere along the way, I had not learned the requirements for accepting a DIV. I, or Div. II scholarship according to the NCAA clearing house. Guidelines no one had taken the time to Teach me, nor my son, what those requirements were in a timely manner. To sum it up, this was very frustrating for me because I clearly understood, you can’t do anything about something that you know absolutely NOTHING about. In other words, You don’t know, what you don’t know.
Ultimately, this became a thorn in my side because after all, I am an educator and my son has the capabilities to succeed academically, as well as athletically. This whole experience changed the trajectory of my son’s life and our family. My son went from getting multiple division offers to trying to decide what to do next with what he had to offer academically. Athletically he had the talent, to play at the NCAA Division 1 level and did so a year later as a red-shirt athlete where he received honors on the Deans’ list as a Freshman. Please understand that you can have the required courses and grades to graduate from high school and not have the required courses to get into college or qualify to accept a Div. I or Div. II scholarship according to the NCAA. Because of this total disservice to student-athletes and their family, MOSA was BORN. I vowed to myself to Never allow any student athlete and their family to be deprived of the information and education that is needed to take advantage of College Sports Opportunities. Now, more than ever with the Birth of NIL- Deals. Families need to be armed with even More information. OUR MISSION will Always be to Educate, Educate, Educate! Don’t Just Play Ball, You Gotta Do it All!
